US Power Quant Researcher

At Wolfram Trading, we are building the future of short-term power trading through cutting-edge automation and advanced data science. As part of our expansion into the United States, we are looking for a Quantitative Researcher to join our US Algorithmic Trading Team and help develop, refine, and scale fully automated trading strategies.

 

You will work closely with a talented group of researchers and developers, initially focusing on the ERCOT (Texas) and CAISO (California) markets, with a mandate to expand into additional US power markets over time. This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible impact from the start and be part of shaping a new trading operation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and monitor fully automated trading strategies for US power markets.

  • Explore and integrate new sources of fundamental data related to market operations, supply and demand dynamics, and external drivers.

  • Apply machine learning techniques to enhance signal generation, predictive modeling, and decision-making within trading strategies.

  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement and refinement of our algorithmic trading systems.

  • Analyze trends and opportunities within US power markets to drive strategy and product innovation.

  • Design and prototype new models and features tailored to the demands of US market structures.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A recent graduate or up to 2 years of experience in a relevant field (quantitative research, energy markets, data science, etc.).

  • A strong academic background in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Solid programming skills in Python for data analysis, modeling, and prototyping.

  • Practical experience with machine learning techniques and their application to real-world problems.

  • A strong interest in algorithmic trading systems (we do not engage in manual trading).

  • Analytical thinking, self-motivation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

  • Curiosity about power markets and a drive to help build a best-in-class trading operation.

Student Position — Quantitative Research Assistant

Wolfram Trading is expanding its footprint into the US power markets and is looking for a highly motivated student to join our US Algorithmic Trading Team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with automated trading strategies in one of the most dynamic sectors of the energy market.

 

You will work closely with experienced researchers and developers, helping to design and test algorithms focused initially on the ERCOT (Texas) and CAISO (California) markets, while also preparing for broader expansion across the US.

 

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Assisting in the development and testing of automated trading strategies.

  • Working with fundamental market data and helping design predictive models.

  • Applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world trading challenges.

  • Supporting data analysis and contributing ideas to optimize strategies.

  • Gaining insight into short-term power markets and automated trading operations.

 

What We Are Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled in a university program (preferably with 1–2 years remaining) in mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.

  • Strong programming skills in Python.

  • Experience or strong interest in machine learning and data-driven modeling.

  • Curiosity about algorithmic trading and power markets — no prior trading experience required.

  • A proactive attitude, eagerness to learn, and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with our research team.
